==========
A "bottom belt"
==========
One of the coolest things about writing a blog, or a book, or an article, or any piece of literature and having people actually read it is that whoever the writer is, in this case, me, has the chance to inject some of my sentiments, ideas, and in this case, vernacular into the minds of my readers and have them love, hate, think on and even adopt some of it.
One of the coolest things to happen to me is when I went to a message board, totally unrelated to this blog, a music message board as a matter of fact and saw that one of the members had a quote in their signature. The quote was from me, from this blog post:
"Desperation is not about the lies he tells you, it's about the ones you tell yourself..."
-Adam Irby
It was so weird seeing my name, on that screen, my words quoted by someone I didn't even know and have never met. The fact that something I wrote, something I had to learn the HARD way could touch someone that much is amazing.
The "bottom belt" phenomenon:
On a lighter note, other less serious things I said have been quoted. On the fifth episode of my You Tube series I coined the term "bottom belt" and it has since become a burgeoning phenomenon. The term "bottom belt" came from an observation I made that most of the bottoms I know and bottom-ish looking people I don't know, tend to at times wear one of those leather, studded, dog collar looking belts, usually in white. While I realize that this is a generalization, some friends and I tested my theory one night, going up to a gay-looking gentleman on 14th Street, in Chelsea with that belt on and asking him if he was a bottom. He was. Now people come up to me all the time using the term.
The social top/social bottom phenomenon:
On the first appearance on my good friend Derrick L. Briggs video blog I brought up another term I coined. The "social bottom" and the "social top". This term came from our visit to the gym earlier that night. We were at the gym and there was this trainer there who was sexy as hell, he was straight. He was straight and top-sexy, meaning that if he were gay he'd most likely be a top, he gave that vibe. Even though, even if he were gay there was no way that he was climbing our backs, 'cuz you know that's not my thing, we still admired him. I actually can't even say that I was so much sexually attracted to him, but he was just fine and I enjoy the sight of fine men, even if I know that nothing would ever happen between us. That's when I said "we're acting like two bottoms right now." I went on to say that me and Derrick are like "social bottoms' in that we can act all "gay" with each other and be all "homo" and out with YouTube videos and blogs and shit and to anyone passing by they may think that we're bottoms but when it gets down to the nitty gritty we don't get down like that. I explained futher that on the other hand the "social top" is the exact opposite, very masculine acting and most people would assume that he's a top but when the lights go out "those Timbs go right up in the air" as Derrick added in the video. We discussed it later that night on camera and the rest is history.
This term was lovingly repeated by another blogger Tyreek James on his steamy new Stuff DL Men Like blog. I appreciate the love even though I'm not in support of the whole DL thing, but I guess everybody can't be "here, queer, and ready to fuck a bitch up who has something to motherfuckin' say about it", like me. He did a whole blog post about social tops and others have also hit me and Derrick up saying that they like the new terms.
Thanks for all the support everybody!

I so love your new terms, and totally agree with them. Social Top and Social Bottom are LONG overdue for working their way into the gay lexicon!
OMG, i soooo hate the bottom belt phrase, lol, cuz i like wearing my studded belt (in black not white)---- heres the kicker, im a bottom (who's never had sex... so i guess your lil generalization rings somewhat true fr me, lol)
but here is howi spot bottom *just for shits and giggles... not scientific):
-arched eyebrows
-clear nail polish
-navel tats
-colored contacts (i cant believe people are still wearing those in 2008)
-poppin' lip gloss
^ worn singularly or in combination
Glad to see these terms defined.
Hmm, I guess I never payed close attention to this but these theories are true when you really look at it. For instance people always think i'm a bottom because of my small petite size when i'm actually a vers, top. One of my ex-lovers looked like he was a top while he is actually a bottom. Also, a recent guy I dated looked like a bottom and he is a strictly top, so that relationship had to end(smile). I guess I know how to do my shopping better next time around.
Ooooohhhh Adam babe...I just caught you and Derick's commercial on Nubian101.com. Don't ask...LOL. It was cute bootz though...keep up this lil coup d'etat and we may have a media mogul on our hands...
...I've always wanted to marry a media mogule..hmmmmm...lol
JB
Child! How about I was watching "Make Me A Super-Model" on Bravo, and...Tyson Beckford was wearing a Bttm Belt!!
***Crossing fingers***
LMAO!
;-)
I don't think the bottom belt phenom has reached Chicago... yet lol. I haven't seen those around town.
From the video, I thought that Social Tops were just Bottoms that hung around a lot of Tops and Social Bottoms were Tops that hung around a lot bottoms. They were just guilty by association so to speak. You broke it down here though.
Not sure I'll be reading Stuff DL Men Like any more.
I love it!!! I have to admit that I am the person that questioned the bottom belt thing, because I usually hate generalizations... But I was the one who was proven wrong(LOL), when I asked the guy on 14th St. about his belt and he tried to play shy, however his friend informed us all that she was a "lady!" LOL
I love your blog and hope to talk soon! Now for my plug... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjA0P6oi4GY... Check out Vantage Point!
