I'm Ba-aaaack... (Thank You)

Hey Y'all,

I'm back. I know it's been a while and it's been very stop, start, stop, start, but here I am. It's been crazy, but here I am once again. Mostly I wanna thank all of y'all who have held me down during this transitional period in my life. The emails, the Facebook messages and the Twitter replies I've read them all and thank you, thank you, thank you so much for all the uplifting words.

For lack of a better term, I'm really feelin' like I got my swag back. I kinda lost myself for a minute there, you know, I forgot who the fuck I am, you ever done that before? That shit is crazy, but it's all in the past now. I'm looking forward to better days and all of us making this journey together. You ready to walk wit' me?

Restarting the blog is my birthday present to myself this year and there's no better time than this for a new beginning.

Let's go!

YAY FOR YALE!

==========

I wanna thank everybody from the Black Solidarity Conference and Yale University at large for all the love, support and hospitality they showed me this past weekend. I spoke on a panel up there about black sexuality with YouTube Superstar and Blogger Extraordinare B. Scott along with LGBT Studies lecturer Shana Goldin-Perschbacher.

It was definitely so good to see so many of you, those who came out from the New Haven, CT area and around the country and see lil' ol' me. It's still crazy to me that people actually paid good money to hear what I had to say. That's just nuts to me, but I'm nonetheless grateful for it. As excited as some members of the audience expressed that they were to meet me, I was ten times more excited to meet all of them.

Really this was such an immense honor and I'm truly humbled by the experience. My black ass, speaking at Yale, who'da thunk it? What a great way to celebrate the blog's second anniversary.

For more pics from the event, click here to check out my Yale Universtiy BSC Facebook photo gallery. And if by now we aren't friends on FaceBook, what's the hold up, request me.

Guess Who's Gonna Speak At Yale This Saturday... ME!

Yes, y'all you read right, I'm going to speak at Yale this Saturday. A while back I was contacted by the Black Solidarity Conference at Yale University to speak in a panel discussion this Saturday, February 28th. I've actually known about this for about a month now and am just posting it today (don't cuss me out too loud y'all). The discussion is called "Disrobed: An Exposé of Black Sexuality" Here's a little blurb on it:

Disrobed: An Exposé of Black Sexuality
Black sexuality has and continues to occupy a peculiar space in the American imagination. Our goal is to examine and engage critically the many historical and contemporary notions that form popular conceptions of black sexuality. With our diverse panelists, we aim to discuss the issue from multiple vantage points with hopes to deconstruct and dismantle the numerous negative and false images as well as illuminate the oft neglected positive iterations of black sexuality.

As far as I know I'm gonna be joined by YouTube personality B. Scott and Terrance Dean, the author of "Hiding In Hip Hop", but I think there will be others.

For info on all the other events of the weekend and how you can attend, check out the official Yale Black Solidarity Conference website at:

It's Our Anniversary... Our 2nd Anniversary...

In the midst of the stressful ass week I've been having I totally forgot that the second anniversary of the blog was this past Sunday, February 22nd. When I look back over the past two years I see that sooooooo much has changed. I have changed. But what hasn't changed is the love and support I get from you all.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

This blog would be nothing without you.

Love y'all much.

One Of The Most "Brutiful" Letters I've Ever Received...

Okay, anybody who's been coming here for a minute knows how much I love to receive letters from y'all. I love it when my readers, you guys, correspond with me via email, MySpace, Facebook, or even at a club or on the street somewhere. Y'all don't know how many times I've been going through something and wanted to give up and just hearing from some of y'all has given me the strength and encouragement i needed to press on. I want to share with y'all a letter I received from a female reader (y'all know I love my ladies). The letter is not just beautiful, it's more than that, it's "brutiful", it really touched my heart. Sometimes it's just the simple things that mean so much. Here's her letter:

Hi Adam,

My name is Kay!  I’'m a 25 year GA native, who ran across your blog the other day while searching for another subject.  The blog entries of yours that I read were insightful, entertaining and some were hilarious.  Even as a straight female, there were some blog entries to which I could relate.  For example, your entry titled “"I Call 'Em "Boomerang Bitches" 'Cuz They Always Come Back...”" hit close to home, because I dated a trifling guy who disappeared on me after a few dates.  Afterwards, I went through a period of self-evaluation, confusion and doubt.  Then, I came to my senses, realizing how valuable I was, and how far beneath me the guy was.  I later learned that he disappeared on me because I wouldn’'t have sex with him.  Honestly, I saw red flags long before his disappearance, but I allowed infatuation and denial to control my actions.

Congratulations on your new job!  Coincidentally, I received a phone call today from a recruiter who offered me an awesome position!  I had been searching for employment for over a year, while refusing to settle for a position that wasn’t truly of my interest.  The position that I was offered perfectly coincides with my ideal career field (web/graphic design & e-commerce), it's at a perfect location and has great pay.  I start the position this Monday.  Isn'’t it amazing how God grants us the desires of our heart when we’re faithful to Him, even during a recession that has immensely decreased the rate of employment in this country?

I also find it awesome that you'’re devoted to Christian spirituality.  There are so many gay individuals who are resentful towards Christianity, because of ignorant and hypocritical “Christians” who discriminate against them.  If only there were more people like you, who focus on the main points of the spirituality (walking in love, practicing forgiveness, pursuing true happiness in the Lord, etc.).  Although it’'s understandably easy to allow ignorant Christians to affect your view of the religion, it is best to look past those corrupt vessels and focus on Christ himself.

Okay, let me stop preaching, LOL!  I just wanted to complement your work, and share something about myself with you.  You’re also a very handsome guy, and it'’s a shame that more straight men won’t step up their game for us ladies, but that’s a whole other story, LOL!

Have a great evening!

-Kay  : )

Thanks Kay, and welcome to the blog. We look forward to hearing more from you.

-Adam

I'm Not Sure Exactly What Blog You're Reading, But I'ma Need To Set Things Straight Real Quick...

I've stated many many times how much I enjoy reading emails that you all, the readers of my blog send me. Believe it or not, I read them all even though I'm not able to respond to some of them as quickly as I would like. Besides the "Ask Adam" advice stuff, which is great, most of the letters I receive are good, praising the blog and my efforts, some are bad, well, bad is not the right word, I should say that some letters are more critical, critical of my blog and my efforts, and even that in it's more constructive dosages is appreciated.

I got a letter yesterday from a new reader who seems to love the blog, but has a viewpoint on the gay community that I don't love so much. What's even worse was that due to our shared sexual role, he thought that I would share his view. Let's read his letter.

Yo Adam,

I just like stumbled on your blog and was checking it out and dawg it's crazy cause I got fucked and sucked dick the first time I met a dude and hated that shit, but he was vers so when he gave me head and ass I've been straight topping ever since. LOL That was when I was 18, I'm 22 now and done slowed down cause niggas catching that shit left and right and I trust no one. I stay strappin' my meat up yo cause these bottoms is wilding out now. They let anyone fuck and becoming flaming queens at the same time. LOL

So by me being a top I agree with and been through a lot of the funny shit you been though. Dawg, I don't hang with bottoms, but as far as having a friend or homeboy you seem like my kind dude I'll hang wit. Shit, I just wish mo niggas was top niggas like me and you cause they all flaming here in [his home town] and I hang with none of them. LOL

Keep it up with the blog yo cause you got these other gay blogs beat you seem more real or maybe cause I'm a top and understand your point of view, but whatever it is keep it up.

Peace!!!!
 -Boy In Timbz

A wise man once told me that everybody lives in their own individual reality and is the star of their own reality show. People tend to take their perception of you and run with it. They see one part of you or take one aspect of your life or your personality and deem you that, that's all you are to them. Each one of us can read the same sentence on the same page of the same book and interpret it billions of different ways. It used to bother me when people would say that this is a sex blog, like people log on and jerk off to my shit. I mean damn, you tell a story here and there, I fucked this one, this one gave me a lil' head, you write about a sexual topic or two and all of a sudden you're the gay Wilt Chamberlain. Anyone who visits here frequently or subscribes to the mailing list would know that I ain't had a down and dirty sex post in a good minute. But hey, it is what it is, I could lay out a whole buffet, but when it's time to eat, folks gon' only take what they wanna take back to their table. In this case I think that Boy In Timbz filled up on the side dishes of my life without getting any of the meat (and not that kinda meat ya Filthy McNasty). For that reason I have decided to address him today.

Dear Boy In Timbz,

I wanted to start off by saying thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. There many other places on the internet that you could have spent your time and I am thankful that you have chosen to spend a portion of it here. I also want to thank you for your letter and the effort that you exerted in writing it.

However, your letter, although complimentary and flattering in nature actually ended up offending me a bit in that I feel as though I am what I am, but I am all the things I am in no detriment to anyone else. I'm a blogger, I'm a gay man, I'm a top, yes we know these things, but that doesn't make me any better or worse than someone who doesn't blog, or someone who isn't gay, or someone who is a bottom.

From the tone of your letter I sensed that you as a top have some sort of enmity against bottoms and/or men who enjoy being sexually penetrated by other men. It's a behavior that I have noticed among many other gay men who claim to be tops. Although the stance is common, that doesn't make it any less destructive.

One of the things that I don't like that we as gay men tend to do is adopt traditional male/female gender ideals amongst ourselves, tops being perceived as more manly and bottoms being perceived as more womanly. In the past few centuries or so women around the world have been trying to gain equality to men. For thousands of years women were (and are still in some populations) seen as having less value than that of a man. Perceived sexual promiscuity in a woman is often looked down upon much more severely than that of a man. A sexually aggressive woman is a "ho" and a "slut" while a sexually aggressive man is a "playa" and a "playboy". I'm sure you know the story. That's why your meat should always be "strapped up" regardless of whether the bottom you are fucking is "wilding out" or not. I'm sure that a young, strapping, 22 year-old top such as yourself, even in your "slowing down" as you say, has had quite a few wild out days. Lord knows I did when I was 22.

My wish for future gay generations is that we stop this whole archaic caveman-ish "Me top, me man. You bottom, you woman." bullshit. Yes, we play around with the words, gurl this and Miss Honey that, Daddy this and pussy that, but we ain't trying to live the shit, at least those of us in are right minds. Beneath it all we know that we are all anatomically men (The transgendered and hermaphrodite communities are a different story, but that's another blog post. I got love for them too.) and none of us should look at one another as above or beneath, even if that's the way we have sex. We are all each other's potential life partners, emphasis on partners, and should be seen as such. Men and women have been dealing with this equality shit amongst one another for years and unfortunately women still don't have all the rights they should, so why would we want to drag this mess into our community?

Another theme to your letter was your distaste for the more effeminate gay man. I'm gay, you're gay, half the people that read this blog are gay. Top, bottom, versatile, virgin, whatever, there is something about all of us, even you, that is stereotypically gay and will be looked at by someone else, whether it be a straight man or another gay man as effeminate. Get into it. Often I ask other gay people I know, what the gayest thing about them is. Me, although I don't get up in drags and walk balls and am not terribly effeminate, I have what most people would probably describe as an extremely gay taste in music. I don't like much rap music and all of my favorite artists are women like Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Faith Evans, Britney Spears, Ciara, Tamia, Girls Aloud, The Sugarbabes, The Saturdays, Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, etc. There are hardly any male artists in my iPod. Most masculine quote-unquote "manly" men would look at that and say "Yo! That nigga is a faggot!" Does that bother me? Absolutely not. It's crazy, it's like you're talking to me like I'm Rambo or Arnold Schwarze-negro or somebody. I'm not a flame as you would say, but if you ran into me pumping down 125th Street in a Levi skinny jean with my patent leather Marc Jacobs duffel in hand you'd pretty much know that I was gay. Even if you can't find an obvious outer manifestation of your gayness, the fact that you like to stick your dick in other guy's butts is enough ammunition for someone given that knowledge to be able to call you queer.

I also have to warn you that you are missing out on a lot by purposely disassociating yourself from other gay men that you feel are less masculine than you are. Most of my friends are are way more feminine than I am, some flaming queens even, most of them bottoms and I love them all to death. I'm even sexually attracted to more feminine guys. Queens have to be the most fun people you could possibly be around. They are themselves through and through and are not so stuck on trying to keep up this masculine ideal that they can't let go and have a good time. There is nothing wrong with being masculine, but someone's masculinity or their femininity should be natural, not an act they're putting on in an effort to assimilate, either way. Usually, this isn't an issue for the more fem gay guys, I find that this is the reason why hanging around with some of my more masculine gay male friends isn't as fun. Excuse my language as I seldom use this term as not to offend the female readers of my blog, but when a gurl is cunt, she's cunt, what's it to you? You just be yourself and let other folks be themselves too.

Lastly, that line about you wishing more dudes were tops was some ol' bullshit. You're a top, right? If the gay world were all tops who would you fuck? Why the hell would you want more dudes walking around who aren't sexually compatible with you? If I could have it my way, every gay man on this Earth would be a bottom and I'd be a busy man. LOL

My message to you Timbz is to not let your preoccupation with always being seen as masculine and your insecurities about being gay shape who you are and who you hang around. If you genuinely have an issue with more feminine gay men and choose not to associate with them solely for that reason, that's you, nobody's forcing you to hang out with them, but if you use that as a barometer for who you will and won't let into your life, get ready for a lonely ass life as a gay man. No offense, but as far as you thinking that I or my blog corroborates your views on bottoms or effeminate gay men, you got another thing coming... Miss Honey!

Much love,
 - Adam

I Know I'm Late But, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey Y'all,

I know I'm the last person to say this but I wanted to wish all of y'all a happy new year. I know I was M.I.A. all of last week as I was on a mini vacay, you know, recharging the proverbial batteries and all, but I'm back now and ready to swing into action.

As I've said before, I'm not one of those "new year, new me" people. I'm basically the same dude I was the week before last, just growing and changing, little by little each day, with no regard to the calendar year. I have no major, life changing resolutions this year, well, they're not very dramatic anyway. My goals are to finish and get my book out to the public, be a little better with my money and to take more pictures this year. So many great moments pass by throughout our lives and we fail to document them. That's all.

Thanks so much for reading and supporting the blog this past year and be on the lookout for the second anniversary of the blog in February.

Much love,
-Adam

My Blog Is: "Turkey Chili For The Gay Soul"

Yes ladies and gentlemen, from this day forward my blog will take on a new moniker. Adam's Web Log - The Official Blog Of Adam Benjamin Irby will also be known as "Turkey Chili For The Gay Soul".

I know it sounds crazy but, I had a conversation with Someone a few minutes ago via IM that inspired this new nickname. Here it goes:

Someone: ur a great writer sir, well actually a cut above decent.

Me: thanks

Someone: lol ur welcome

Me: what did u read?

Someone: i read alot. i read really fast. i can dig ya views on things and some shit is like (***squints eyes***" now adam"****)

Me: opinions are like assholes... lol

Someone: true, but its all entertaining and chicken soup for the black gay soul. shit that people don't want to hear that everyone knows is tru, so on that note i commend u

Me: it's more like chili for the black gay soul. i like chili better, more protein, turkey chili to be exact. it's low in fat too.

Someone: wat about the vegans

Me: fuck em

So there it is people, "Turkey Chili For The Black Gay Soul". I'm not changing the name or anything, it's just a pseudonym, a nickname if you will.

By the way, I actually enjoy that Hormel Turkey Chili pictured above. It's a staple in my pantry. It's great for those of us out there watching what we eat. It's meaty, satisfying and will warm you up inside, kinda like my... blog. But anyway, like I was saying. It's really low in fat, really high in protein and although a can is two servings I usually eat the whole thing as a meal. It's an especially good meal for those of us who are trying to work out and build muscle. The best thing about it is that you can eat it and not be hungry afterwards like most of the other stuff out here that's good for you and it's a quick meal. Just empty the can into a bowl and microwave it for two minutes.

Here's the nutritional breakdown courtesy of FakeOutTakeOut.com, a really good blog for those of us looking for healthier ways to enjoy our favorite foods. Check it out, they have great recipes there.

Hormel Turkey Chili:
Serving size: 1 cup (serves 2)
Calories: 210
Fat: 3g
Fiber: 6g
Protein 17g
Cholesterol 45mg
Weight Watchers Points: 3

My Favorite Reader Letter...

Doing what it is I do here I get a good amount of correspondence from you all, letters, emails, comments and such. Although it can be overwhelming at times, I do read EVERYTHING, and I appreciate it so much, even if I don't always get a chance to respond.

I'm such an email pack rat that I don't even delete anything. I just let all the letters sit in my email box and let the server figure out what to do with them. The most touching letters though I save though. Looking through my letters last night I stumbled upon what has to be my new absolute favorite. This letter I received a little over three weeks ago. Here it is:

Dear Adam,

I certainly enjoy reading your blog. You are a scrupulously honest person and also an amazingly gifted writer. I am a 63 year old black gay male. I have lead a full life and identify with much that you write.

I enjoy the connection to my youth that having a window into yours provides me. The most salient fact that I have garnered from your writings is that when it comes to interpersonal relationships little has changed. Many of your battles have been my battles. The one enormous game changer has been HIV. Since its first appearance over 2 decades ago, I've lost more friends and acquaintances that were very dear to me.
Keep on writing and believing in yourself. You have a very special talent and your great personal charisma leaps of the pages of your blog. You are also one sexy little dude. forty years ago I could have taken you on. I was a hot number back then. LOL

Son, treasure every moment of your SWEET, young life. It goes by very fast. Carefully store and hone your memories. The day will come when they will be not only your best possessions but a major coping mechanism when your "Old and Gay". Don't fear the aging process. Do prepare for it.

I wish you the best in your precious life Keep on titillating and stimulating my ancient sensibilities.
-MH

I'm always honored to receive letters from older people, people who have already been where I am and have gone through what I'm going through. I try my best to be receptive to any precious kernels of advice they can offer. Like the Bible says "there's nothing new under the sun" and as I talk to more and more older gay people I realize that the interpersonal struggles that we go through today and the ones they went through are basically the same, except that we go through ours with BlackBerries and iPods.

Thanks so much MH, and everyone else for your letters. Keep 'em comin'.

If you ever wanna send me a letter or a message, ask me a question or just wanna say "Hi" click here.

The Straight Men Have Their Say... Now I Wanna Hear From The Ladies...

A few days ago I put a call out to all the straight male readers of my gay ass blog to email me and let me know how they found my blog, why they continue to read it and what they get from it. I selected three of those letters and posted them here.

Here's the first one:

I came across your blog a long time ago when I was googleling something about police brutality and I came across [your] story. I read your blog because it lets me know how at least a few gay black people think or view certain things in society. I don't like being ignorant. So many times people form opinions about something before they get all the facts about it. I just really like getting things from all perspectives.
- Bran745

Yeah, last year I was unjustly arrested coming home from the gym, simply minding my African-American business. I told the story on the blog. Click here to read that post.

Here's the second letter:

Hey Adam,
I'm a straight guy who reads your blog. Your blog is just entertaining my brother. I honestly don't come from reading it with a very positive opinion on you most times, but its just entertaining always. My wife actually has you favorited on her computer and she turned me on to your blog, been reading ever since. I liked the post about 'heterophobia', it was very interesting. As was the one about men being 'more attractive' than women, I even commented on that one. And for what its worth, I'll mention that I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters: ALL of whom are gay. Keep up the good work my brother,
- Hammer

Even the straight kids are trying to read now, go figure. (LOL) Who knew that husbands and wives come together to read my blog? It's great. A while back, after being declining an invite to a gay friend's straight birthday party I realized that I may be "heterophobic" and wrote a blog post about it. Click here to read that blog post.

And the last letter:

Wattup Adam?
I'm a straight dude and i've been an avid reader of your blog for a few months now. I first came across your blog by way of a youtube video i saw...you and some guy named derrick acting like clowns...lol...anyway...I'm a music lover (I never leave home without my ipod..it's my baby...lol) and we have similar music tastes..but i can't get with that "Girls Aloud"..I can't give you cool points for them...lol...I'm also a homebody much like yourself and that's probably why i like reading your blog...our personalities are similar (from what i can tell)...plus I enjoy hearing people's point of views and like people who are real...and your story is one that I just find interesting...I enjoy good and honest writing...that's probably why I'm a fan of so many tv shows (i'm a tv whore btw..lol) ...I'm an observer..the proverbial "fly on the all" type of dude...atleast in my opinion anyway...lol...that's all I can conjure up right now..if I think of something else! I'll be sure to let u kno...so continue to write and live and I'll remain the fly on the wall.

You're a straight male. If you were that into Girls Aloud, I'd worry. (LOL) Check out my post about my favorite UK girl pop group Girls Aloud here.

Thanks so much guys for responding. The fact that there are so many many straight dudes out there who are so evolved and secure in their sexuality is definitely an encouragement to me. The motto of this blog and one of my life mantras is "We're all more alike than we are different. It's all about seeing ourselves through each other." The fact that people of all walks of life can apply what they read here to their lives or at least just be open enough to be entertained by it is great and gives me more hope for the future of gay-straight relations in the US and around the world. Because at the end of the day, it won't be the politicians who will broker tolerance and understanding between straights and gays. It's up to each of us, as individuals in our daily lives, opening up, listening, getting to know, befriending and trusting each other.

Now it's your turn straight ladies. I wanna hear from you. Send me a message letting me know how you found my blog, why you continue to read it and what you get from it. Then I will select a few of those letters to post here on the blog. Click here to send me a message.

I can't wait to hear from you.

As always, much love.
- Adam

Check Out My Interview With The Hot Boyz...

Hey Y'all,

Check out my interview with the Hot Boyz, not the New Orleans rappers Baby and Mannie Fresh, but the infamous crew of gay party throwing socialites based here in New York City. I was approached to do this interview a while back by one of my friends over at BET, TV producer Carlos King as an introduction to an independent project he's putting together. Basically, he followed the Hot Boyz, shooting footage over the past year to be pitched as a reality show on a TV network. These two videos posted below are an introduction of this project and an interview with two of the Boyz' founding members. I'm conducting the interview.

Check them out, part 1 and part 2.

OH MY GOD... Somebody Finally Gets It! / Re: Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave...

You know, being a blogger, putting out blog posts, is like being a musician or and actor putting out a new album or a new movie. Of course you hope that people are gonna like it, although you know some won't. Your greatest hope though is that whether people agree with, like or hate it or you that they at least understand where you're coming from. Unfortunately in the case of Sunday's post ""Oh Girl"/Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave... Especially When Ya A** Gets Caught In It Tryna Be Slick.../Lying 101" many of you just didn't understand my rationale.

I'll briefly summarize that post. It was the story of a guy I met late last Friday night. We met up, we chilled, we seemed to like each other and we made a tentative date for the next day. After confirming that date he contacted me soon after via a suspicious sounding text message to cancel the date. I became suspicious due to the language he used in the text that more than likely he was postponing on me for another date and tried to conceal it with a flimsy cover story because it's something I'd done many times before. Our subsequent text message exchanges that evening confirmed my suspicions so much so that I even caught him in the lie. He's a juggler, but I'm an even better one. For the purposes of this blog I republished and examined our exchange here to illustrate how I knew that he was lying and what steps he could have taken to make his lie better.

The blog post was a social experiment of sorts and was not meant to be an illustration of how deep my feelings were for him. What feelings? At that time we'd only met 36 hours ago. The post was a dissection of human behavior in general with the use of his words, his existence as a living, breathing person and possible life partner wasn't really important in the post. I wanted to show how someone who came to me saying that they wanted to settle down, giving the impression that they were tired of games, went and played a game less than 24 hours later. The post was meant to show that irony.

I thought that my intentions were in clear view but I quickly learned from the comments I received that they weren't. I received a litany of comments whose overall message was that I was over analyzing the situation, playing games, being overly emotional and that I shouldn't have put so much mental investment into him. Someone even questioned my maturity and went so far as to say that my writing of the post showed him my age. As the comments kept rolling in, all basically in the same vein, this deeply troubled me. I thought to myself 'Are they reading this whole thing? 'Cuz they are just not getting it.' I actually kinda felt bad for a second, my blog is my baby. It's like having a baby and everyone saying it's ugly. Okay, that was a little dramatic but you get the point, it bothered me.

This morning, my redemption finally came. The fourteenth and last commenter on that post before I started writing this one post got it. This is what that commenter said:

First of all, Adam, the first half of this was funny as hell.

I have a different view than most of the above commenters who may not get what you were attempting to do here.

In a nutshell, you have a lightening fast mind. You sized up the situation instantly and correctly - which is quite different from someone trying to figure out what the hell happened after the fact, then analyzing it to death to get the correct answer. The difference is seen in a math class: some kids catch on quick, while others are still stuck on Question #1.

What you did here, in this post, was take a snapshot of common situation and broke it down as a social scientist or attorney would. This was an excellent "teaching post" about lying, lying poorly, lying well, and spotting a lie.

This is what many of your readers failed to notice or appreciate. They're stuck on the event, not seeing the bigger picture of how it applies to numerous situations including politics.

You had a number of jewels sprinkled in the post, such as:

...you can't juggle a juggler. I invented that shit.

...I'ma have to teach this nigga how to lie. This shit is pitiful, almost painful to watch, yet funny.

Rookie lie mistake, too many details... The more details you put into a lie the more details you then have to be responsible for.

In order to make someone else believe a lie you have to believe it first. His mistake was that he didn't believe his own lie and that he needed to validate it in his own mind by reciting details to me.

...put more emphasis into engaging the person [you're] lying to than into explaining [yourself].

For someone to be a decent liar they must first understand the truth. The thing that people need to understand about the truth is that the truth just is. There's no need to explain the truth.

...he didn't lie to validate me, he lied to validate himself.

Now, Adam, my dear Adam, I ain't gonna get into whether you should or shouldn't see this guy again. That shit is off the radar in terms of what's important.

Waz that? You gotta helluva first class mind. I don't know if you're in school, got a degree, or what your career aspirations are, but baby boy, you could make a mint off of brilliance.

If you ever become a criminal attorney, other attorneys would fear your fucking name if they had to go up against you in court.

Hell, if you got a business, marketing or finance degree, oh shit, you'd be rich. You figure out scams quick and I think you'd be able to follow the mind and find the cheese.

This country is changing by the hour. When the smoke clears in about ten years, if you've been working your God-given talents, yo black azz could run for a public office and win.

Whatevah you do, I hope you can mobilize yourself to put your genius where it's gonna pay off big time.

There's always gonna be a Rufus; they're a dime a dozen and fun to pass the time with. BTW, I don't think he insulted your intelligence by lying, he just wasn't sharp enough to know you were sharper. When you look back over life, who the fuck was?

If you can count 'em on one or two hands, you in the wrong neighborhood and playing the wrong game. That suggests that it's time to leave the pond, dive in ocean and play with the big boyz on the university and pro level.

You'll find mentors, too, who will nurture and help you cuz you got some talents that can't be bought nor taught. I hope you can seize the moment while you're young. I think you can, if you want it bad enough.

Good luck, my friend. I'm rooting for you.

Kit (Keep It Trill)
http://keepittrill.blogspot.com

She (yes she, she's a woman) summed up my intentions beautifully. Upon further inspection of her blog I learned that she has a master's degree in social work and currently works as a social worker and mental health therapist, no wonder she broke it down so keenly. Granted, her comment was filled with compliments to me (Thanks, I'm a Leo, flattery gets you everywhere with us) I appreciate it most because reading her comment felt as though she walked into my brain and started posting things on a blackboard for all to see. She was the first commenter to understand my intent.

You guys can check out her blog at http://keepittrill.blogspot.com

So do y'all understand now what I was getting at? This shit ain't about Rufus' lying ass. He is what he is. I'll deal with him later, if I choose to do so. The original post was an illustration of irony and a lesson on lying. The most rewarding thing about it all though was that it fostered thought and discussion and that's the overall point of my blog is anyway. And far as me being analytical, that's what I'm here for. I'm a writer, a blogger, an artist if you will. I analyze things. I'll tell you all what I told someone else regarding this post and my overall purpose:

"If I didn't pay stuff like this any mind then I'd have nothing to write about. Although this [and a lot of things about dating and meeting people] isn't the biggest deal in the world. Taking stuff like this, breaking it down and making it cerebral makes for a good read. Art is achieved when you can take everyday things and pull from them something deeper. Andy Warhol made a whole career of it."

Addendum: This post is not to say that the first commenters to the original post are wrong and that I'm right. There are no rights or wrongs here, there never have been. I just wanted to make sure that my intent was fully understood.

I want to thank all of you who nominated and voted for me for the Black Weblog Awards, unfortunately we didn't win... again. I would like to congratulate the winners Pam's House Blend and Darian Aaron, who's a friend of the blog. After seeing this play out twice I've decided that I'm not gonna pester y'all with this whole thing next year as I've noticed that the awards seem to have an affinity toward more newsy and less controversial gay blogs. When we didn't win last year I compared myself to soul singer Millie Jackson in that she was controversial and always put herself out there, but that never won her many awards either.

Please know that my biggest award is the love, the emails, the messages and all the support I get from you all and that's all the encouragement I need to keep on doing what I do and because you, the people are the one's who nominated me it is truly just an honor to be nominated.

Thanks
-Adam

Pressing The Flesh... aka "Are You Adam? Hey, I Read Your Blog..."

From time to time I do a blog post thanking everyone of you for all of your love, prayers, comments, emails, fierce homo reads, and all other kinds of support.

This post is a special one because as of late I've been actually running into a lot of you, meeting and pressing the flesh at different events, in the clubs, on the street and even in the supermarket during my day-to-day travels.

I said before that if you see me on the street don't be afraid to come up to me and say "Hi". iI don't bite unless asked. ;) I love meeting you all and if you're a bottom and you're fine, please, please, please don't hesitate to say hello.

You can't say you don't know me because you read my blog and I tell you all my business so you may as well say "Hey."

So I just want to send a special shoutout to everyone whose ever come up to me and said: "Hey, I read your blog..."

For those of you I haven't had the pleasure meeting I hope to see you at my 25th birthday party on Friday, July 25th. The official birthday party for me and all Leos and the people who love them. Come party with me and my friends. It's open to the public, free admission and the drinks are cheap. The theme is silver and I'm sponsoring a $250 grand prize to the party goer with the best silver outfit. THE BLOG HAS MOVED! I'm So Glad I Didn't Lose YOU!

Hey Everyone,

I'm so glad you're here that and I didn't lose you.

The blog has moved, sort of...

The home address has always been http://adamsweblog.com but the difference now is that the blog is no longer hosted by TypePad.

Please update your links and bookmarks to: http://adamsweblog.com.

The new blog features a few new bells and whistles, like the search form and menu but the best thing about it is that the blog is now hosted on my own server.

As it says at the top of the blog, the intra-blog links inside the text of the older blog posts won't work as it's still directing to TypePad but I'm working on changing them all over.

For those of you who have grown tired of looking at me in the orange fitted laying on the railroad tracks, the blog will get a complete aesthetic overhaul sometime next month.

So glad you made it,
-Adam

PS: Be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think of the blog's new look.

Dammit, I'm Writing A Dictionary... aka The Story Of My Words, "Bottom Belts", "Social Bottoms" And "Social Tops" And Such...

0105060050 ==========
A "bottom belt"
==========

One of the coolest things about writing a blog, or a book, or an article, or any piece of literature and having people actually read it is that whoever the writer is, in this case, me, has the chance to inject some of my sentiments, ideas, and in this case, vernacular into the minds of my readers and have them love, hate, think on and even adopt some of it.

One of the coolest things to happen to me is when I went to a message board, totally unrelated to this blog, a music message board as a matter of fact and saw that one of the members had a quote in their signature. The quote was from me, from this blog post:

"Desperation is not about the lies he tells you, it's about the ones you tell yourself..."
-Adam Irby

It was so weird seeing my name, on that screen, my words quoted by someone I didn't even know and have never met. The fact that something I wrote, something I had to learn the HARD way could touch someone that much is amazing.

The "bottom belt" phenomenon:
On a lighter note, other less serious things I said have been quoted. On the fifth episode of my You Tube series I coined the term "bottom belt" and it has since become a burgeoning phenomenon. The term "bottom belt" came from an observation I made that most of the bottoms I know and bottom-ish looking people I don't know, tend to at times wear one of those leather, studded, dog collar looking belts, usually in white. While I realize that this is a generalization, some friends and I tested my theory one night, going up to a gay-looking gentleman on 14th Street, in Chelsea with that belt on and asking him if he was a bottom. He was. Now people come up to me all the time using the term.

The social top/social bottom phenomenon:
On the first appearance on my good friend Derrick L. Briggs video blog I brought up another term I coined. The "social bottom" and the "social top". This term came from our visit to the gym earlier that night. We were at the gym and there was this trainer there who was sexy as hell, he was straight. He was straight and top-sexy, meaning that if he were gay he'd most likely be a top, he gave that vibe. Even though, even if he were gay there was no way that he was climbing our backs, 'cuz you know that's not my thing, we still admired him. I actually can't even say that I was so much sexually attracted to him, but he was just fine and I enjoy the sight of fine men, even if I know that nothing would ever happen between us. That's when I said "we're acting like two bottoms right now." I went on to say that me and Derrick are like "social bottoms' in that we can act all "gay" with each other and be all "homo" and out with YouTube videos and blogs and shit and to anyone passing by they may think that we're bottoms but when it gets down to the nitty gritty we don't get down like that. I explained futher that on the other hand the "social top" is the exact opposite, very masculine acting and most people would assume that he's a top but when the lights go out "those Timbs go right up in the air" as Derrick added in the video. We discussed it later that night on camera and the rest is history.

This term was lovingly repeated by another blogger Tyreek James on his steamy new Stuff DL Men Like blog. I appreciate the love even though I'm not in support of the whole DL thing, but I guess everybody can't be "here, queer, and ready to fuck a bitch up who has something to motherfuckin' say about it", like me. He did a whole blog post about social tops and others have also hit me and Derrick up saying that they like the new terms.

Thanks for all the support everybody!

I Almost Forgot... It's Our Anniversary. Today Is The One Year Anniversary Of Adam's Web Log...

"Do you know what today is?
It's our anniversary..."

-Tony Toni Toné
from the song "Anniversary"

As I woke up this morning amidst the four to six inches of snow that's blanketing Manhattan as we speak, turning on my computer, busy as ever, doing sixty things at once, I almost forgot. It's February 22nd, the anniversary of the first blog post I ever wrote, it's our anniversary. So I had to drop everything and take a moment to say thank you. Thank you to you all who visit this blog, the lovers, the haters, the readers, the gawkers, the subscribers. You all are what make all of this possible and I appreciate it so much. Who knew that a little place where I came to gripe and whine about my relationship issues would grow into such a big thing, and resonate with so many people.

There's been a lot of growth in the past year from my first blog post to this, my 200-something and the growth is not just mine. My first blog post was about how my best friend Mike and I went to a little off-broadway show and saw from the balcony of the theatre the huge dick print of one of the characters. Since then that little off-broadway show, like that guy's dick, isn't little anymore. "In The Heights" just started it's run on Broadway last week.

And my best friend Mike, who was just an aspiring singer last February, taping himself with my digital camera is now singing backup professionally for big people, people with record contracts and labels and everything. I can't mention them here because they don't all know he's gay yet. That's still some people in the music industry who have a problem with that. That's such bullshit, but to protect his career I won't say who he's worked with, but you know if it were up to me I'd let you know.

As far as my growth is concerned, where do I start. I've laughed, cried, fallen in love, out of love, fucked, dated, masturbated and you've all been along for the ride. And all along the way I've grown as a writer. Not only am I writing a blog, I'm writing for a magazine now and I'm working on a book. I can't believe it's been a year already. Time goes by so quickly when you're having fun.

Thank you all, all the readers out there for your love, support, the advice, and the reads along the way. I'd name names but there's way too many of y'all and I don't want to forget anyone. You know who you are and that I love ya. You know you're appreciated. Hit me up on Yahoo and next time I sign on, hopefully before 2036, I'll respond to your message and we'll chat, maybe even cam if I'm feeling frisky. LOL

Love,
-Adam

PS: Fuck the haters! (I mean that literally if they're good looking haters, just be sure to nutt in their faces and never call again afterwards LOL) And NEVER give up on your dreams.

Re: It's Not About What He Knows, It's About Who He Knows...

In Tuesday's blog post entitled "It's Not About What He Knows, It's About Who He Knows..." I said that:

"What's crazy is that in the largest city of the most powerful country in the world, with one of the largest black gay communities in the world that everybody knows everybody and the chances of you or your date having coincidental relationship or sexual overlap is damn near unavoidable."

Yes, as unavoidable as it is, that doesn't mean that I would never date someone who has friendship, relationship, or sexual history with a friend or and ex or a "frex" (a an ex who becomes a friend). Shit, if I took that stand, there'd be no one left to date. I'd have to move out of town and start over. What I do though is take greater consideration of my friend's, exes, or frexes feelings whenever the situation arises (as each individual processes that sort of thing differently) because I realize that dating this new person (who I may not even like next week) isn't necessarily worth causing friction in an already established friendship.

As far as I'm concerned I don't care if my friend dates my ex or vice-versa. An ex is an ex for a reason. Like Chaka Khan says "When it's over it's over. If it's done, oh baby it's done" (I will PayPal $1.25 to the first person who can tell me what song that lyric is from). Who am I to stand in the way of their blessing? Maybe they could be right for each other. You know how the saying goes, "one girl's trash..." It's all good with me as long as they handle things respectfully. I'm learning though that few people are as evolved as me in that regard so I've learned to tread lightly and in that case I decided not to tread at all.

My 2nd Appearance On Da Doo-Dirty Show And His First Appearance On Mine...

A picture of Me (giving you much red eye) and DJ Baker of Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show outside Cosi restaurant a few months back.
==========

This past Friday DJ DJ Baker of Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show aka "my brother from another mother" or just DJ as I call him stopped by for a taping of Me and Nathan "Seven" Scott's new YouTube series, "Adam."

I turned the tables on the controversial internet radio show host and asked him the questions and he in turn interviewed me. The video of that will air on "Adam." sometime in February but the audio of the whole thing is up now on the radio show's website in celebration of DJ's week long 300th show celebration this week.

The thing I love most about DJ and what he's doing is that he has really given up and coming people in the LGBT community a place to display our talents that is much more insightful and tailored to us than the mainstream media. A lot of us in the community owe a good portion of our exposure, good and bad (lol) to DJ.

If you've never heard one of DJ's shows it's quite the experience. Be sure to check it out.

Congratulations on your 300th show DJ!

Baby's Hosting His First Event: BLOGTOPIA

Btvban01a_2In the coming weeks you'll start to see more of these around. This is Blogtopia, a blogger networking event that's the brainchild of Derrick L. Briggs in association with moi. More details to come, but I can tell you that we are currently reaching out to bloggers asking for their participation. And of course we need you the readers to come out as well. After all, what is a blog without the readers?

More and more blogs are becoming a part of our everyday reading and thus our everyday lives. Blogtopia is a chance to put faces to those words, thoughts and opinions we view each day, a day to take blogs away the computer screen and have them come to life right before our eyes. It will also be a chance for everyone in the community to come out and mix and mingle, so bring your business cards.

If you are a blogger who will be in the New York area this April and are interested in possibly participating in Blogtopia contact me.

Re: The Birth Of A Hater...

**Jill Scott "Hate On Me" horns blaring**

The nursery at Hater General Hospital was jumping yesterday as even more haters were born, some of which I will address here today. I'm glad that yesterday's blog post touched so many of you, some like a warm caress across shoulders tired from the undue stress that haters can bring and others a smack in the ass welcoming you as yet another hater to my world.

The underlying theme to this post is that "a guilty conscience has no accuser." Yet, another wise old saying that I have adopted as an "Adam-ism." My post yesterday I felt was pretty general. It seems as though people took it upon themselves to call themselves haters. Some people seemed to have such a problem with my post about haters. Dost thou protest too much?

Let's start with Mr. Anthony Anderson. I really didn't want to go so deeply into this whole thing so soon but you've left me no choice. I actually taped a segment with Nathan that's scheduled to air in a few weeks clearing this whole thing up and it's still gonna air, just for kicks, but your comments have forced me to address this today.

Oh, Mr Anderson you're so vain, you thought my whole blog post was about you. Actually it wasn't, it was pretty general with only a clause or two directed at you. But upon reading yesterday's blog post your guilt ate at you so much that you were the first to respond to it, less than one hour after it was posted forty-five minutes to be exact. You go off into this whole tangent about having an interview you did with me not being put in your alleged magazine and how you went and announced that on Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show, which is actually the first I'd heard of this news (as you never contacted me regarding printing that interview and instead chose to clog my MySpace mailbox for more personal reasons *wink, wink*). Then you went on to profusely apologize for going about things the way you did. And yes you were wrong, not just wrong, but unprofessional, triflin', and tired. But even that was just a smoke screen. Note, the word "magazine" appeared nowhere in yesterday's blog post.

Now you know good and damn well that the magazine thing not the reason I'm upset with you. You don't have to put me in your alleged magazine. That's your alleged magazine, you play with it however you like. I'd be humanly impossible for a person to care less than I do about being in your alleged magazine, especially one that I'd never heard of prior to meeting you and one that I still have yet to see. You didn't even have a copy to show me and DJ when you met us (problems at the printer's perhaps?). You told me yourself that you ran a "straight" magazine at which I asked you why you'd even want to do an interview with my unabashedly gay black ass who writes about gay sex for a quote-unquote "straight" alleged magazine?

When you met me you told me that you were an admirer of my work so much so that you went on to pull quotes straight from my blog during our conversation at Westway Diner that night. DJ, host of Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show was there as well, he was the one you really came to interview. You just decided to throw me in after we met (how convenient?) Rodney you remember? You were there, you even wrote a blog post about it. So you knew exactly who I was and what I was about, so don't hand me that shit about advertisers either. Aren't you the CEO of this phantom publication? You know exactly who your alleged advertisers are and what they expect. You knew good and well that your "interview" was for nobody's magazine. It was a tired segue into asking me out on a date and you did in the middle of the so-called interview. "Would you like to go out on a date with me? is not a proper interview question. And I very nicely declined, attempting to change the subject and avoid your advances, trying to keep things on a business level. But you just couldn't take the hint could you. You went on to pursue me via MySpace (and I have the messages to prove it, screenshots anyone?) and I kept avoiding the advances. I even sent you a message regarding the interview which I never even expected to be in your alleged magazine but you never had anything to say about that. Whatever.

What made me upset with you was the fact that out of what must have been out of your anger at being rejected by me that you would go on Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show and make comments about me regarding "body counts" and things when clearly none of that was discussed when you were tryna get with me. It's so funny how after you turn somebody down you all of a sudden become a ho. I never gave a fuck about your magazine, it was never that serious! What I wanna know is why was any of that on the radio necessary? What have I ever done to you? Why else would you have done what you did except for the fact that I wouldn't date you? And then throwing the whole magazine thing in there just for spite, I mean really? Why else did you deem it necessary to announce to the world, on the radio show of a man who I consider like a big brother to me, that I wouldn't appear in your alleged magazine, totally unbeknownst to me, like I wasn't gon' find out and light fire under that ass. You interviewed me in November for the so-called holiday issue. After a while with no correspondence I knew that that wasn't gonna come to fruition and what the interview was really all about. I mean, what holiday you celebrating, Groundhog Day? Face it. You were wrong, you were bitter and you were tired and I don't know what in the hell got into you but you played yourself. Case closed.

Remember what I said yesterday about the haters:

"You're gonna have so many things to hate on me for this year that there won't be enough hours in the day. You're gonna have to hire assistant haters to help you keep tabs on hating on me."

Well, the peripheral hate has started already. Mr Anderson must have put wanted ads up on Monster and CareerBuilder real quick last night because he's already got his first assistant. Someone by the name of "Clientel" left a long, draining-ass comment, defending Mr. Anderson rather passionately. You can read the full comment attached to yesterday's post. Here I'm just gonna pick select quotes from it. I'll be gentle with Clientel, given her obvious ignorance of the full situation.

"Wow Adam, you really missed the mark."

Actually, no, you've missed the mark and I'm about to tell you why.

"Maybe you could look at the situation at [the alleged] Magazine as a chance to reflect on the image you want to portray. If some were offended by some of your postings it stands to reason that others may be also. If you intend have any kind of career that relies on the public you have to realize that the way you conduct yourself and the things you say carry consequences."

I'm fully aware of the image I portray and it's so-called "consequences" and I could give two green shits about who the fuck I offend. I am who I am and that's why you read my blog. I've said this numerous times before, I even wrote a blog post about it entitled "WHY I DO WHAT I DO/THE REASON BEHIND THIS BLOG...". I'm fully aware that some people are gonna be put off by things I say here and to them I say, DON"T FUCKIN' COME HERE! If you have a job, a magazine, a club, a whatever that thinks that I'm to racy to be a part of it then I don't wanna be a part of it.

Also, Clientel real magazines that people can touch and feel because they're printed regularly like "People", "Us", "Vibe", "Clik" even, have these things called research departments where people are paid to find out about prospective interviewees before the first sentence of an interview is even uttered. If I was so racy I should have never gotten an interview in the first place. And what do you think he interviewed me about, terra-cotta gardening? He obviously had to have read my blog before doing an interview, DUH! Anyway, Mr. Anderson, frequents my blog and knew exactly what I was about and who I was before he met me. He had already left comments here and he was a MySpace friend of mine. I didn't ask him to interview me, he asked me. The nitty gritty is that that lady was just mad at me because I refused to give him a date. Period.

"All your little friends are leaving comments as if this Anderson cat is a hater trying to knock you off your throne."

That's right! And when you come to my throne be sure to kiss my emerald ring.

"I don't know you or this Anderson cat. I heard him on the Doo Dirty Show and I heard his comments about you and they didn't come across as hate but I've never met him you did so I really don't know."

Obviously. Well, now you do.

And then totally on some other shit another person by the name of Da'Quan comes:

"I'm confused"

Knowing is half the battle.

"Let's keep it real though, you are doing something that anybody can do. A blog is simple to create, nowadays it's comparable to creating an email address."

Yes, everyone can have a blog but not everyone is a blogger. A person with a blog can put any old shit on a web page and it will sit there infinitely and needlessly, ignored in the vast depths of cyberspace. But a blogger can post something as simple as my blog post yesterday and have people across the world reading and talking about it. So much so that even you had to take the time to comment.

"A book, let me guess, you are going to talk about being Gay and your struggles. Damn I gave you a whole synopsis of your book and you aren't finished writing it."

Actually no, that's not what my book is about, but nice try though and I'm so glad to see that you are keeping such close tabs on me as I didn't even mention anything about me writing a book in yesterday's blog post either. It's great to know you've been reading.

"I think you might call my comment HATING...and it's not. It's called an OPINION. It's like when you disagree with something somebody else is doing (which you are entitled to do) you are called a HATER."

Actually I don't think that overall your comment was hateful but the lines about my blogging being "something that anybody can do" and the book thing, those were reads. They were cute though and may have done damage to someone else, but if you wanna get me you'll have to come a little harder next time. So keep on coming, I know you will.

I'm starting to think that maybe "haters" is the wrong word to use for certain people "biggest fans" is sounding way more appropriate.

Deuces.

Two New Blogs To Add To Your Daily Reading... aka My Chirrens Is All Grown Up...

I'm not a blogging veteran or anything, at least not yet, but I have covered a lot of ground in the past 11 months. My meteoric rise to black gay blog popularity could definitely not have happened without your support as readers and the support of bloggers before me like Queer Kid Of Color, Joey Bahamas, and Darian Aaron who saw my potential and helped spread the word about me.

Over the past few months two readers of and frequent commenters on my blog have been so inspired by my work that they have started blogs of their own. I want to formally introduce them to you today.

Arkiemheader

Arkiem Legree:
http://arkiemlegree.com

Arkiem (known here as Kiemie) is special to me because besides having an awesome new blog he is one of my closest and oldest friends. We have known each other since we were twelve. And besides blogging about being a black gay man tryna make it in this world living, loving, licking, etc. Arkiem is using his blog as a vehicle to empower "men of size" in our often overly body conscious, body image obsessed gay community. For most people that would be total bullshit, but knowing Arkiem like I do I've never heard him say that he wanted to be skinny or that he wanted to lose weight to fit into this mold or that mold or to be a quote-unquote "skinny bitch" like me, he's the truth. He's happy with who he is and just strives to be healthy and happy. I love the Brooklyn Bridge in his header 'cuz even though I'm in Harlem I still rep BK all day every day! We straight outta East New York! Check him out, tell him I sent ya.

Cutouteyes1

A Roca Fella's Life:
http://rocafella07.blogspot.com/

Roca Fella is another one of my blog chirrens I'm so proud of. Known here as RocaFella07 he came along a few months ago just commenting his heart out (bloggers love commenters by the way and we especially love the long ones). He's the person who coined the phrase "cuddle-buddy" which I have added since added to my vocabulary. Based in Chicago, Roca's blog tells the tales of a young urban black male trying to find himself and possibly someone else in the process, sound familiar? He's cute too and that never hurts. Check him out, tell him I sent ya.

Alrighty, be sure to check them out and add them to your daily blog reading. And if you would like to start a blog I encourage you to go ahead, you should do it. It's not as hard as you think. Always be sure to visit and comment on other blogs, especially mine. And if your blog is good and you update frequently (like at least once a week, even though in my opinion that's a little scant, but I also realize that I'm a beast) I'll discover you and would be more than happy to tell folks about ya just like my predecessors did me.

Our First Christmas Together...

Hello my lovely readers...

That unmarked present under the tree, the one wayyyyyy in the back, that's for me right? Y'all saved me a place at the dinner table, right? In the corner, right? Oh, and make sure I get some of the white meat. 'Cuz I don't like turkey like that anyway, but if I must eat it I'ma only eat the white meat.

Nah, lemme stop...

I want to thank all of you who have stopped by, visited, read, sent me emails, and left comments all throughout the year.

In celebration of our first Christmas together I'm posting some of my favorite Christmas music.

Enjoy.

Have a wonderful day and a Merry and Blessed Christmas with your family and friends. Hopefully you're not stuck at work like me... ugh! I'm so over this.

See, This Is The Typa S*it That I Don't Like... Don't Read And Run...

Someone who characterizes himself as "The Answer Man" left this in response to yesterday's blog post "Maybe It's Just Me...":

Dearheart,
It is possible you are projecting your needs onto them when they are merely being friendly. What you perceive as flirtation may simply be polite conversation in their mind.

From reading your blog it does appear you see men in very distinct categories--"a piece", cuddle buddy, hook-up, etc. Is there no place in your easy compartmentalization of your relationships for someone who is just a friend? Or must everyone be either a potential fuck or a past fuck?

Instead of asking what's wrong with other men, you might take a look in the mirror.

-The Answer Man

Obviously from the sarcastic nature and the feminine tone in which "The Answer Man" addressed me we can all plainly see that this is a read, a respectful read, but a read nevertheless. Some queen who calls herself "The Answer Man" decided to come on my blog and read me. That's fine, I realize that in writing my blog I put myself out there. The kids are not always gonna agree and sometimes people will read me and that's okay. Shit, knock yourself out, be Levar Burton for all I care, make my blog the fucking "Reading Rainbow", I don't give a damn. I love it when people express themselves here, even when their opinions differ from mine. We're all entitled to our opinions and I respect that.

But what I don't respect is for someone to come here, try to read me and be too scared to even leave a proper email address. When you comment here only I see the email address you leave me. That information is not shared with the public. Many times people have commented here and I have personally emailed them thanking them for what they said or giving them further clarification if needed. Read me to your heart's content but if you can't stand behind your words there is no validity to your read. What I do have is this person's IP address and I see that they're from right here in New York. This person may even know me.

In response to you "The Answer Man" I say thanks for your opinion. I can't really take it into any serious consideration though as your cowardice has rendered it invalid. How am I to take advice that you can't even stand behind? Next time, don't read and run.

I Know Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery... But Damn...

I know that a lot of people read the blog and enjoy it and that's great. I love to hear that, but a reader of this blog has taken that enjoyment to another level.

I wrote a blog post not too long ago entitled: "My 7 Lessons I Learned In '07" or something like that. Well this person copied my post word for word, my specific life experiences and all. Wherever I mentioned my name, he took my name out of it, put his name in and pawned it off as something he had written and posted it on FaceBook. People were on there giving him kudos and congratulating him on his growth when little did they know he stole the whole thing. Now I don't mind people redistributing my stuff, that happens pretty often, but give credit where credit is due and certainly don't try and pass my life experiences off as your own.

I was shown this by another reader of the blog from Washington, DC who is a FaceBook friend of this person. Reading that thing actually was a little scary, like I was in "The Twilight Zone" or somethin'. It was very spooky, almost stalker-ish. I'm sleeping with one eye open tonight.

I did confront the person about this via MySpace, let's see what kind of reply I get back.

Stay tuned...

Abipromo

Hey Everybody,

Check out the website I've been laboring so hard over all week. I want to take this time to apologize to anyone I may have been snippy or short with this past week due to the fact that I was working so hard.

Some of you may not know this but besides the blog I've always had my own website. In fact the blog started off as an extension of my website until it took on a life of it's own.

The website features my "Flawless" video which was banned from YouTube (damn censorship) so if you've never seen it you can check it out. My photos and my new bio are there and I even outline some of my plans to write my first book.

So check out the website and sign the guest book so I can know that you stopped by.

I'm Gonna Be On Enrique Cruz's Website...

Yes I'm gonna be on Enrique Cruz's website... but it's not what you think. I'm actually more naked here than I probably will ever be there. I've been picked as the newest writer for Enrique Cruz's GaySexReport.com, a veritable how to, how not to, and have you ever tried to, of gay sex.

Cruz, best known for being an urban gay porn magnate also has a background in writing and publishing. I along with Enrique Cruz and some others will be writing and posting articles there daily. These articles will of course be sprinkled with much eye candy. My writing there will be much more of a graphic sexual nature that what I post here (yes, it's possible). So viewer discretion is always advised.

Have Y'all Ever Noticed...

Have y'all ever noticed that my blog is work safe?

Many times at work we're unable to visit gay-friendly websites, even if they're not porn sites themselves, because they have all these pictures of naked men in sexually suggestive poses all over them in ads and what not. Now I realize that some of my pictures here are shirtless but I think they're still tasteful (I mean, I look at it at work with no problems) and anything that could be considered a little racy is always in thumbnail form. It's not something you have to look at.

I keep this in mind because I started writing this blog as something for me to do to occupy my slow times at work and for you to read during the slow times at your jobs.

I just thought thought I'd let y'all know that Adam's always thinking of you.

-Adam

PS: If you still think the blog is still to racy for work you can always join the mailing list and have the posts emailed to your computer or cell phone/PDA.

Check Out My New Interview...

Hey Everybody,

I was recently interviewed by Ra Shawn Chisholm of the Vibing Through Writing blog. I must say that this is one of the best interviews I've done so far. He asked me in depth about what I do here on this blog and what my process is. No one has really gotten that deep with me yet. You could tell that from his line of questioning that he did a good amount of research before he interviewed me.

I'm Featured On Enrique Cruz's Website...

Yes it's true. I'm featured on Enrique Cruz's website, but it's not what you think. He reposted my "Flawless" video (produced by Nathan "Seven" Scott) and did a write up about meeting us this weekend on his blog. He's the coolest guy. I'm so honored.

So, I'm Trying To Reconcile My New Found Notoriety With Everything I Believe In And I Keep Coming Up Short...

About five months ago a good friend of mine and I were having lunch. He was telling me about how he started to hear people talk about my blog and how it was increasing in popularity and playfully said to me that I was becoming a "celebrity" and I was mortified. The New York black gay community is the breeding ground of the "black gay mini-celebrity". That is a person who is doing something that causes them to get a little more attention in our community than the average person and because of that attention they feel as though or act as though they have attained "some type of plastic, pseudo-celebrity status." It's actually quite sickening to watch. I even wrote a blog post about it. Because this sort of thing is everything I despise about the black gay community here in New York I try my best not to fall into it as it is a very subtle thing. On Wednesday, me and that same friend (who actually would be the most valid example of a black gay mini-celebrity, but without the big head) were talking via IM and he hit me with that celebrity shit again and I replied to him "TAKE IT BACK!" playfully, of course.

Things have been changing for me since I started this blog, especially within the last month or so. I've been doing interviews for some online outlets and even for print publications, doing some photo shoots, filming some stuff (for YouTube, Spielberg hasn't called yet lol), and going to some events. Yeah, a few more people recognize me than they did before, a few more dudes try to holla now than they did before (that's cool) but at the end of the day I'm still me. I don't feel any different, I'm not acting any different. And I damn sure don't feel like anybody's celebrity. Maybe once my black ass doesn't have to get up at the crack of dawn and go to work anymore we'll talk about celebrity.

AIso on Wednesday I was talking to Pubby and I told him about how I was adjusting to things lately. I'm really loving that people are getting into the blog. I've said many times before that it warms my heart when people like you read this blog and send me comments and emails about it, especially if you tell me that it has helped you or that you can relate to it in any way. I absolutely love that, that's what makes this all worthwhile. On the other hand, because I have done a provocative photoshoot here and there I have gotten some correspondence that's been more of an overt sexual nature. I'm kind of astonished at myself for saying this but I'm not really feeling that so much. I mean, yeah, you can compliment me on my photos. That's all well and good and I will thank you. But some of these messages are just straight up nasty and surprisingly as much as y'all know I love sex I'm just not feeling that. If somebody wants to ask me on a date, feel free, step up to the plate, kick your game, all I can say is yes or no. But don't think 'cuz I have a few photos with my shirt off and tell an explicit story (that relates to the point of the post) here and there that I'm running an escort service here. I know that I have been promiscuous in the past but I'm trying to leave it there.

Even with all that and as much as some of these advances have annoyed the hell out of me I guess they're somewhat understandable as well and go with the territory. It is what it is. When you put yourself out there you never know what you're gonna get back. All I can do is just be me.

I basically said all of this to Pubby on Wednesday and he told me that I was "full of shit" and that I love every minute of the attention, good and bad, which I felt totally discounted everything I said. When he told me that it kinda stung me. I can't say I was fully hurt by that statement but it was a swift kick in the nuts. I was really trying to pour my heart out to him and I just wanted him to listen. Instead, that's what I got. When he said that I was literally speechless. I had to take a moment to gather myself. It was like a sucker punch to the abdomen. Instead of Pubby I need to start calling him porcupine. He's so cute and you just want to hold him but every time you try to get close he stings you.

I went to an event on Wednesday night and I got a chance to talk to and network with a few people, honestly that's just about the only reason I even go out these days. In the midst of that someone who I didn't know by name but that I had seen around before came up to me and said "Hi Adam!" I was actually a little shocked as they were so just warm, and smiley, and gracious, gushing so hard I had to wipe off my boots. I smiled back and diplomatically returned the graciousness even though I knew that it was rooted in total bull shit. Now that person has seen my black ass in the clubs and around town numerous times before and been all up in my face and never said shit. Now all of a sudden they wanna say "Hi Adam", and gush harder than the Buckingham Fountain... please. Just because I write a blog and ten more people know my name than this week than they did last week now I'm all of a sudden good enough to talk to... whatever. Now I would never come off as nasty or jaded or have a chip on my shoulder because of it. I already know how fake people are so it's just funny to me. All I will ever do is smile and be the pleasant person I always have been. At at the end of the day I'm just glad that someone else is getting into the blog. No hard feelings.

Now I'm not stupid or naive and I realize that because the internet is a worldwide forum of course some form of notoriety is going to come along with doing what I do, especially because it's about my life. Intellectual notoriety though is what I embrace. Be a supporter of the blog, enjoy the writing, tell your friends about it, please, I beg of you, if you see me in the street say "Hi", all of that's great. And if you're attracted to me, ask me on a date, that's all well and good too. It's the notion of this pseudo-celebrity status that I don't like. The idea of me having "fans", and people just wanting to be around me because of how I look or because people know who I am is what disgusts me. Especially because so many so-called mini-celebrities don't even the a body of work to show for their status. They just get so caught up in the by products of the work that the actual work begins to suffer or people forget what hell the work was to begin with. And it's not that I'm so perfect and that I'm above getting get caught up in the hype, sure I can. I'm just making a conscious effort not to, in spite of people who say that I'm gonna change.

What's craziest about the whole mini-celebrity thing is that most of the time it only holds weight inside our immediate community. Outside the black gay community, after the club closes and when the function is over don't nobody know who the hell these people are. They hold regular jobs and live like the average person. How are you a celebrity when you don't even have the money to back the shit up? I personally equate celebrity status with dollars and cents. So let me start making some money and then we'll talk about celebrity. For right now, let's just read the blog and learn from each other like we've been doing, okay?

Thank You Everybody! (Shout Outs Part 1)

Hey Y'all!

I just wanted to take this time to thank you all for reading and supporting this blog.

The response to the "Flawless" video has been overwhelming!

I'm glad everyone liked it so much.

I was even contacted by FlavaMen (the porn magazine) to consider modeling for them.

As flattering as that offer was, of course I declined.

And a new record for daily hits to the site was set yesterday!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I just wanna take this time out shout out a few people (in no particular order).

I wanna start by thanking GOD. I know a lot of people would say that I sound like one of those gangsta rappers at the source awards right now. How could I possibly thank GOD as I write about homosexuality? You see that, I just did. Thanks GOD for leading me to my passion (writing). You know I've tried so many other things just to get to where I am now and you've been with me through them all. Thank you for keeping me safe down through the years in spite of all the crazy things I've done. You are the only reason why I'm not dead or terminally ill today. The church folks would say that a homo like me wouldn't know you GOD, but I'm glad we know so much better. I still believe in you as you never stopped believing in me. Thanks GOD.

I wanna thank everybody who has ever commented or sent me an email. I read EVERYTHING and it's so encouraging, even when you disagree with me. Thanks for the support and the advice. You guys truly are my internet angels watching over me.

I wanna shout out all of the dedicated daily readers and commenters here:
- Seth L. ("The King Of Facebook")
- Naquan (I can set my watch to your daily comments. You are sooooo appreciated.)
- Andrew C. (May the force NOT be with you!)
- Nic
- Kiemie (My best friend since the 7th grade.)

Thank you so much for the visits, comments and emails. I'm so glad that you have made me a part of your lives.

I wanna shout out all my friends in the blogosphere:
(All of their blog links are in the "My Favorite Blogs" section. Check their blogs out.)
- Joey Bahamas (When are you coming to NYC?)

- Aaron Morrow (Ima take you up on that offer one day.)
- QueerKidOfColor (Let's just agree to disagree lol)
- Nathan "Seven" Scott (Thanks for EVERYTHING!)

I wanna shout out all the people in my life who make appearances here. Y'all are almost as much a part of the blog as I am... almost.
- Mr. Man (My biggest supporter. Thanks for believing in me from the beginning. I know that couldn't have been easy. Thank you for teaching me how to avoid the paparazzi! You are the template.)
- Mike (My best friend and the only person who lets me use his real name.)
- Russell (My other best friend.)
- CancelCancel (You have a fan base all your own!)

Last but certainly not least I wanna thank YOU, whoever YOU are, reading this. YOU make all of this possible!

Thanks again GOD!

I'M FLAWLESS... Well At Least Nathan "Seven" Scott And "The 7 Magazine" Think So...

Hey everybody,

I have been picked by the very funny, very talented Nathan "Seven" Scott, executive producer of the wildly popular YouTube series "The & Show" as "The 7 Magazine's: Flawless Man Of The Month" for November 2007. This award is given to movers and shakers and up-and-comers like me in the LGBT community who are doing their thing but incidentally are also not hard on the eyes. I'm very honored that I was chosen given both eligibility factors.

Last Saturday me, Nathan Seven and DJ Baker of the Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show did a photo shoot in Brooklyn at some abandoned train tracks. Those pictures will be featured on "The 7 Magazine" website in November. In the meantime you can check out this YouTube video showing behind the scenes footage from the photo shoot. Hopefully I didn't look too nervous. Seven and DJ are crazy! It was so much fun.

Also check out "The & Show" on YouTube, it's hilarious!

I'm On The Radio, Whoa-o-o On The Radio...

Me and DJ Baker, host of Da Doo-Dirty Radio Radio Show.
==========

Last week I taped an interview for Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show. Da Doo-Dirty Radio Show is very popular LGBT internet radio show that features people making moves in the LGBT community as well as the blazinest hip-hop and R&B from LGBT as well as mainstream artists. Unlike broadcast radio, the shows are always available on the website whenever you want to listen. The mood of the show is a mix of Howard Stern and Wendy Williams.

DJ found out about me after seeing my now famous "THE SUM OF ALL GAY MEN'S FEARS" post reposted on Darian Aaron's blog. It moved him so much that he sent me an email inviting me to appear on his show. In our conversations prior to my appearance we realized that we had so much in common to the point that we're like brothers from another mother!

Given our rapport I was even more excited to appear on the show. During the interview we talked about everything from the blog, to sex, and more sex, to relationships, tops, bottoms, Viagra, outdoor sex, doing it raw, internet hookups, golden showers, the Golden Girls, Sex And the City, getting played, the size of my dick, nappy pubic hair and everything in between. The conversation is no holds barred, uncensored and at times, downright hilarious. Since he actually reads my blog he asked me about EVERYTHING! Basically it's all the honesty of the blog on the radio. Look out for more things in the future with me and DJ.

Here's a just a few of the questions he asked me:
- Have I ever had sex outside?
- How many times have I had sex?
- Would I sit on my own dick?
- Has a bottom ever touched my ass?

DJ is crazy! The show was so much fun.

Be sure to leave a comment.

You can also Podcast the interview and download it to your iTunes/iPod to keep. It's free.

Re: THE SUM OF ALL GAY MEN'S FEARS...

Hey Everybody,

I just wanted to thank everybody for their support of my last blog post "THE SUM OF ALL GAY MEN'S FEARS..." The response has been overwhelming and totally, totally unexpected. Along with the comments here I've gotten many emails and correspondences from people telling them how much the post affected them, some even moved to tears. I'm really happy that the bearing of my soul could help others. What's crazy is that I almost didn't even put that post online.

Along with the comments and emails from you all, other bloggers have reached out to me to have permission to repost the post on their blogs. If anyone would like to repost that post or any other post from here it's fine as long as you link back to the blog (http://www.adamsweblog.com). And be sure to let me know so we can exchange links.

I've also been approached by Da Doo-Dirty Show, a popular LGBT-friendly Podcast Radio show to do an interview as a result of the blog post. I'll give you more info on that as that develops.

The "THE SUM OF ALL GAY MEN'S FEARS..." post will not be on top of the blog anymore as I'm going to continue writing other things but if you ever want to revisit it or email it to friends you can click on this link: http://abenjaminirby.typepad.com/adams_blog_abenjaminirbyc/2007/09/the-sum-of-ever.html. I also have added a permanent link to it on the left column of the blog under "Adam's Favorite Posts".

Once again thank you all for all of your support.

-Millie Jackson
from the "Phuck U Symphony"

Monday night I was talking to Joey Bahamas, a blogging buddy of mine, author of The Rake N' Scrape Chronicles (click here to check out his blog) and I told him that as controversial as people think my blog is (because it's really not so controversial to me) I've never gotten much negative feedback about it. All I get are people giving kudos and saying how wonderful it is and how it has helped them become more comfortable with themselves being young and gay. Well Joey, I spoke too soon.

After I got off the phone with Joey I went back to my laptop. I was looking at post I left for my home girl Angie, the moderator of the Official Janet Jackson Message Board, with a link to the blog. In the thread someone questioned whether I should divulge so many intimate details of my life. This was my response to that person:

"I'm a very open person about my life.
Each of my blog posts has a lesson attached to it.
And believe it or not it helps people.
Especially gays who are ashamed of their lifestyle.
I get emails about it all the time.
That's why I do what I do."

A few replies down someone else chimed in with this sentiment, aimed at me:

"Dirty gays only apply [their] life to yours because it is quite similar!
And gays who are ashamed of their lifestyle couldn't learn anything from you I'm sure!
There are a lot more positive "real" examples to learn from."

Wow, so they think I'm dirty... After I responded and read that queen like the New York Post my mind jumped right to Millie Jackson. I felt so akin to her at that moment. Then I remembered that spoken word intro to "Phuck U Symphony" and the picture I had taken of me back in February, it was fate. Like Millie I was being called dirty for just keeping it real and talking about my own life. Mindin' my own dayum business.

Millie Jackson is a very underrated soul singer who released most of her albums during the 60's, 70's, and 80's. While people like Diana Ross, Patti Labelle, and Aretha Franklin were hitting it big on the R&B and pop charts much of Millie Jackson's brand of soul music mixed satirical stand up comedy-ish spoken word interludes (like the one I began this post with) about life, relationships and sex were a little too raw to be fully accepted by pop audiences. Her realness often kept her songs, with a few exceptions, under the radar. You may remember one of her few TV appearances as Florine, Martin's mother's friend in a Thanksgiving episode of the Fox sitcom "Martin", (season 3, episode 11, aired on November 24th, 1994). The highlight of her appearance was her performance of "Pass The Peas Like We Used To Do" with Martin's mother (played by Martin Lawrence) and Pam (played by Tichina Arnold).

Even though people often said that her music was dirty and raunchy. Millie Jackson never let what people said change her, often the adversity would make her come back harder. In the midst of performing songs such as "A Child Of God (It's Hard To Believe)", "If Loving You Is Wrong I Don't Want To Be Right", "If You're Not Back In Love By Monday", "A Little Taste Of Outside Love", "Never Change Lovers In The Middle Of The Night", and "Phuck U Symphony" her spoken word interludes often reflected what was going on in her life. She pulled no punches and was no stranger to openly talking about sex or using profanity. There would be no Lil' Kim without Millie Jackson, Kim actually sampled the spoken word piece from the top of this blog post in her song "Durty" from her last album "The Naked Truth".I'm not even sure why someone call me "dirty", why? Because I talk about sex, something that we all do (well, maybe not that person), something is as natural to human beings as breathing air and drinking water. Society and religion has brainwashed us into thinking that sex is dirty and that even our sex organs, our dicks and pussies or penises and vaginae, if you will, are dirty and don't let me get started on the gay thing...

Like Millie Jackson I tell the stories of my life with humor and candor with the purpose of entertaining and informing my audience. I don't write about sex in an effort to titillate, any mention of sex in my blog is because it was an integral part of the story I'm trying to tell and of the message I'm trying to convey. We're all adults here, we've read the disclaimer in big red letters at the upper left corner of the page. A little sex should be such a shock. It's a part of life, grow the hell up and accept it.

My greatest satisfaction comes from the comments and the emails from people who enjoy the blog and those who tell me that it has helped them. People leave here feeling better about themselves and life in general whether gay or straight because they know that somebody is going through some of the same things they're going through. They can avoid some of the pitfalls and drama I've been through by reading about what I did and doing the opposite. And while most people aren't as vocal about their lives as I am I'm sure that some of you have stories that make mine look like child's play. Every generation has it's story tellers and I'm proud to be one of them.

If you hate me so much lemme tell you what you should do... Ya ready? Ya listening? STOP FUCKIN' COMING HERE! The worse thing you can do to a web blogger is just to make the personal decision not read his blog. You can't tell other people not to read it 'cuz that's gonna make them only want to read it even more, you'd only be doing free promotion for me and why would you want to do that? But the funny thing about haters is that as much as they'll try to go away they can't stay away. For this hater to even make such a half-assed assessment of me would take reading a few of the more sex related entries (because they're not ALL about sex). So continue to read my blog and hide it, I won't tell if you won't.

If you wanna hear me go off on another hater read this post.

The Girls Are Reading...

==========
Today, August 29th, 2007 is officially Ladies Day here at Adam's Web Log. All of my posts today will have a unifying theme of interest toward the fairer sex.
Enjoy.
==========

Yes, the girls are reading, not 'the gurls' (queens reading each other), but actual women with fallopian tubes and everything are reading this blog. Lately I've been noticing that I've been getting more and more comments and emails from women who are readers of the blog. I even got one of my sisters to start reading it and once she got over the shock now she's hooked.

When I started this blog I have to admit that women actually weren't my target demographic. It's not that I wanted to exclude them I just didn't think they'd be very interested in the life and times of a black gay man, boy was I wrong. I thought that all of the sexual references I make here would turn them off. This morning I read one of the comments that one of them left to the "I Really Am A Bottom, I KNOW I Am..." post. She said:

"You are such a good storyteller. I am right there with you every step of the way. I am glad that you didn't just say f*** it and rammed dude up you actually took time to consider how he was feeling in the situation."

I read it and I actually couldn't believe she said that. I think it was the fact that she used the term "rammed dude up". As open and sexual as I am some things can still make even me blush when caught off guard. I don't know why I would blush though, I am the one who wrote the blog post. It's actually really cool that there are women aren't so repressed when it comes to gay sex. I really appreciate her comment.

Now that I think about it my initial expectations of women were actually kind of dumb of me. The theme of the blog is "We Are All Much More Alike Than We Are Different" it's like 'DUH Adam, why wouldn't they be interested?' The whole point of the dayum blog is that we see ourselves in each other. I put forth a purpose and then I start to fulfill it and then I'm shocked when it's actually working out, crazy huh? The only thing I have to do now is teach the women gay lingo. I am actually working on a gay lingo dictionary and it will be posted to the site soon.

Some of the female readers are bloggers themselves so I wanted to give them a shout out. I'm also gonna add them to "My Favorite Blogs" list located on the left panel.  Be sure to check out these blogs:

- Get Erica (she's beautiful)
- Caramel 101's Live Journal (she's bi, papa likes)
  Thanks for the link.

Thank you to every woman who supports this blog!

Especially Angie, the moderator from the JanetJackson.com Message Board who was the first woman who made herself known as an avid reader of my blog.

If you are a blogger or webmaster and you have linked this blog from your website. Let me know so I can give you too a shout out.

WHY I DO WHAT I DO/THE REASON BEHIND THIS BLOG...

Someone visited the blog recently and commented about its explicit nature. They said that it was "T.M.I." (that's too much information, for those of you not up on the lingo) that I was giving way too many graphic details about my sex life. They went on to ask whether I had thought about the ramifications of it all. What kinds of employment promotions and opportunities it could keep me from? What people would think? What they would say...

My first instinct was to jump into a defensive place. You know the fierce queen inside of all of us (yes, she's in you too) puts on her reading glasses and is at the front line of battle when she thinks we're being attacked. My thoughts went to the disclaimer at the front of the site, "if you don't like it then why are you reading it, ain't nobody ask you to come here", and of course the proverbial "who do you think you are, you can't tell me what to write, I'll write what the hell I wanna write" defenses. Then I realized that without giving the reader's words, or any words for that matter a moment of unbiased thought I could start to sound irrational, hyper-defensive, and downright faggot-crazy (and ain't no crazy like faggot-crazy). So I stepped back for a moment and let the genuine concern from this reader wash over me.

Before I started this blog all these thoughts and questions entered my mind. Not only had they entered my mind but they bought real estate, built condos and Starbucks' and started to gentrify my mind. Trust me I had given this a lot of thought. What if my boss came online and ran into my blog or one of my co-workers, or my mother, or one of her church friends or one of my aunts or one of my old friends from high school or junior high school, what if, what if, what if? If if was a fifth we'd all be drunk. I knew what I wanted and needed to do and I was not going to "what if" myself into rife mediocrity. No thanks. The day my mother told me that if I continued to live my life as the gay man that I am I'd die before I was 30 (and a happy Mother's Day to you too Mom) I knew it was time to cut the apron strings and start living my life for me. Psst **whispering** I used to have mother pleasing issues. Your life is God's gift to you and he gave it to you for you to live it not for anybody else. If you live your life for other people and you get hit by a bus tomorrow, what's gonna happen? Yeah, they may cry, they may even miss you but they will move on and you would have just wasted your life.

The main reason why I talk about sex as freely as I do is, well, because I can. Why the hell shouldn't I? I'm human and humans like to fuck, especially gay humans. It's just as simple as that. God gave us sexual needs and urges so why not talk about them, they're beautiful. I'm so blessed to be in a country where I can say what I want and live my life freely so I ask again, why the hell shouldn't I? For so many years gays have been vilified and have had to live out our days hidden in some damn mental closet afraid for our lives and our well being and now we have a chance to have a voice and dammit I'm using mine. I am a man who has sex with other men which involves me putting my erect penis into my partners rectums (and even his in mine on occasion) and it's something I enjoy and what's so wrong with that? Oh yeah... that's right, the Bible says it's wrong, that's right, the infallible word of God that's been passed through thousands of fallible mens hands like the cheese plate at cocktail party, the same Bible that has been remixed more times that a Deborah Cox record... riiight. I'm so glad to have a personal relationship with God and not be bound by the hypocritical brainwashing of the church (especially the black church) any longer. Because there is no queen as messed up as the double minded church queen. While I do believe that there is truth to the Bible, what God inspired and what we have today I believe are definitely not the same thing.

To address the employment situation, I totally understand where the reader is coming from on this one. Employers now are actually Googling (searching on the search engine Google.com) prospective employees as a part of the interview process. I know already that if some staunch corporate employer Googled "A. Benjamin Irby" (try it) they would probably be at their desk gagging or maybe even titillated with their hand doing the ok grip jerk on their small, hard corporate dick, either way I probably wouldn't get a call back, at least not for the 'job' they listed in the want ads... well... I guess that depends on the newspaper because the back of the Village Voice... anyway I digress. Thankfully I'm not staunch corporate lawyer, investment banker, accountant guy. I'm artistic, graphic designer, web designer, writer, free expression guy so that's not so much of a worry for me. Even my day job is in a very liberal field working for an even more liberal company so I don't have to worry much there either. But that's not to discount this concern because it is very real for many people and I do what I do for them as well. I'm sure it's good to know that after working hard all day at being homo-geneous (and not homo-sexual) among the breeders in corporatia (my nickname name for the corporate world, you heard it here first) it's good to come home to my gay ass writing about life, relationships, drama, and hot sweaty man sex from our point of view. And besides, anybody who wants to deny me any job or any anything because of what I have written on this blog can take their job and shove it up their ass and then call me and tell me how good it felt and then XTube it so we all can watch. What God has for me is for me and if I have to compromise myself and my values (yes, even I have values) to get something then it's definitely not meant for me to have. period.

Lastly, I do this blog for the newly out gays and the gays who still have issues coming into who they are, the ones in that small town that may not have another positive gay influence or person they know to discuss issues and concerns with. My prayer is that by reading about my real (not sugar coated or watered down) exploits you can learn from my mistakes and be a more well adjusted homo. Cuz lawd knows half of these homos out here are crazy as hell and are suffering with all kinds of issues. I also do this for straight people. I know y'all reading cuz y'all email me too. The theme for this blog is that "we are all way more alike than we are different" and the straight people that read and enjoy the blog are coming to learn than besides who's what goes in what hole and who doing what to whom, heartbreak, love, and emotions are all the same, we're all human at the end of the day. And most of all I do this for anyone who is nosy and loves a kee kee, and a good read.

Thanks reader for your question it has given me a reason to re-evaluate my motivation and as a result has strengthened my zeal for my writing. Again, thank you.

PS: And to any haters, this does not count the reader who asked the question that inspired this post (you know who you are) but to anyone who may have malicious, hateful feelings toward me or my blog:

IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY BLOG, DON'T FUCKIN' READ IT THEN... BITCH!

Have a nice day.
